Two positions are available immediately for a 3-5-year Multi-University Research Initiative (MURI) sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) to characterize adhesive molecules from diatoms for defense related applications.
(i) Identification and biochemical characterization of diatom adhesive molecules
(ii) Bioinformatics screen for and in vivo analysis of diatom adhesion proteins
These positions are located in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) in the group of Nils Krger and Nicole Poulsen. Both positions require a Ph.D. in biochemistry or molecular biology and position (ii) requires also experience in computational biology. Applicants must have strong background and publication record in biochemistry and/or molecular biology including protein purification, DNA cloning and sequence analysis. Experience with culturing diatoms/microalgae would be beneficial but is not mandatory. Interested candidates should submit via e-mail an electronic copy of their CV, a cover letter describing their past research experience, along with complete contact information for at least three references to Nils Krger (nils.kroger@chemistry.gatech.edu)
