Job Description :

We are seeking highly motivated individuals for postdoctoral positions in the Structural Biology Program of the Sloan-Kettering Institute, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NYC, USA.

The lab develops cutting-edge techniques (Nature, doi:10.1038/nature09163 (2010)) aimed at gaining a mechanistic understanding of fundamental biological processes. Major emphasis is placed on development of novel single-molecule detection and manipulation instrumentation that pushes the envelop in sensitivity as well as in spatial and temporal resolution. Current projects focus on real-time, in-vivo super-resolution optical nanoscopy and on deep-tissue, chemically-selective non-linear optical imaging. Another area of interest involves high-precision combined single-molecule fluorescence/optical force- and torque-spectroscopy.

Successful applicants will fully utilize the superb technological capabilities of the lab and apply the tools developed to outstanding biological questions. Ongoing projects include: molecular recognition and fidelity mechanisms of DNA replication, mRNA transcription and protein synthesis machines; gene expression and DNA damage response pathways in the context of the nuclear interior; dynamic organization of biological membranes at the nano-scale with emphasis on the early steps of cell-signaling; trafficking at nerve terminals and regulation of synaptic transmission.

Requirements: Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Biophysics, Chemistry or a relevant field. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment is essential. Experience with single-molecule detection instrumentation, non-linear/ultrafast laser optics and nanofabrication techniques is preferred. Individuals with additional working knowledge of basic biochemistry, cell biology and/or neuroscience techniques are strongly encouraged to apply. Please send a CV, names and contact information of three references, and a short description of your scientific interests by email to Dr. Alexandros Pertsinidis (PertsinA@mskcc.org).

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is an equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to enhancing the diversity of its faculty and staff. Women and applicants from diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
